So imagine my surprise when during visiting teaching last week, Linda mentioned that she had been able to watch some of the Olympics.
'Olympics?!?' I asked, confused. 'The Olympics are being held right now? Where? Which ones?' I mentioned this conversation to Brandon, and dubious, he replied that surely the Olympics weren't this year, weren't they supposed to be in 2012?
Welcome to Cairo, the land where you have to run the air conditioning in February, the view from your window never changes, and evidently the rest of the world ceases to exist once you get here.

That's how I felt during the last winter Olympics. I had been on my mission for about a year, and I seriously had NO CLUE the Olympics were about to start until the Chinese speedskating team started walking around the city center. Apparently they were there to practice before the games began.
Isn't there some catchy tune about "Egypt, they gotta bobsled team.." Oops, wrong movie.

Umm, I wasn't aware they were happening to about a week before. More importantly, UNC is 3-8 in the ACC and Duke is 10-2.
If it makes you feel any better, I forgot they were happening and I live in the US...in Utah...where clearly winter prelims are a big deal!
Hehehe. Some bits of the Opening Ceremonies were pretty darn cool, but I haven't seen too many of the events themselves... I mean, apart from curling, which is a religious observance. Everyone has to watch curling. You have been watching the curling, right?
OOOPS! Make that UNC is now 2 and 9 in the ACC!!
